Illinois Mental Health Summit Letter to Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services: Restrictions on Access to Psychotropic Medications for Medicaid Recipients
March 17, 2011 On March 17, 2011, Mental Health Summit, an advocacy group facilitated by Mark Heyrman, J.D., public policy chair for Mental Health America of Illinois, registered its concern in a letter to Julie Hamos, director of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (DHFS). In the letter, Mr. Heyrman outlined the negative effects of prior authorization requirements for persons with serious mental illnesses and recommended that DHFS carve out psychiatrists from the prior authorization policy, similar to OhioÂ’s exemption.
