Costs & Benefits of Investing in Mental Health Services in Michigan
April 10, 2011 The Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards (MACMHB)commissioned an analysis of the state's current expenditures. The analysis compared the types of services provided by level of case severity and the cost. The analysis found that the state spends 20 times more for crisis services than for services of moderate intensity. The MACMHB recommended that the state change the mental health service delivery system to improve access to care, maximize the federal Medicaid match, and implement administrative efficiencies.
