Prior Approval for Antipsychotic Medications for Long Term Care (LTC) Residents
April 20, 2011 On May 2, 2011, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services implemented changes to the Medicaid preferred drug list that include limitations on access to several antipsychotic medications. Starting July 1, 2011, prior authorization for any psychotropic medication will be required for all individuals living in a long-term care facility. Residents with a diagnosis of serious mental illness will be grandfathered and permitted to continue receiving their current antipsychotic medications.
