Mental Health Study Response from the Michigan Department of Corrections
May 1, 2011 The Michigan Department of Corrections (DOC) is implementing a new policy for mental health medications that favors generics. On May 1, 2011, DOC reported to the legislature that it had implemented new reception screening/appraisal/evaluation process in which every inmate arriving at the reception center is seen face-to-face by a qualified mental health professional. As a result of the new intake process, DOC reported that the incidence of mental health disorders is 17%, 10 percentage points higher than the 2008 estimate of 7%. Download the Report . . .
