DOJ Guidance Regarding Jurisdictions Seeking to Authorize Marijuana for Medical Use
June 29, 2011 On June 29, 2011, the federal Department of Justice (DOJ) informed states that commercial cultivation of cannabis intended for medical uses would not be tolerated. This DOJ memo to states noted that within the past year, several jurisdictions have “considered or enacted legislation to authorize multiple large-scale, privately operated industrial marijuana cultivation centers” with plans to cultivate thousands of plants.
