DEA Denial of Petition To Initiate Proceedings To Reschedule Marijuana; Proposed Rule
July 8, 2011 The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) sent a letter to Michael Kennedy of the NORML Legal Committee denying their petition to reschedule marijuana from a Schedule I controlled substance to a Schedule II controlled substance. DEA cites that marijuana has a high potential for abuse, is not currently accepted for medical use in any treatment in the United States, and lacks accepted safety for use under medical supervision.
