On June 24, 2021, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (DHS) released this letter to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) regarding Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) revocation of its approvals of the state's Medicaid work and community engagement requirements to maintain Medicaid eligibility. CMS had approved Arizona’s waiver on January 18, 2019. CMS said that light of the ongoing disruptions caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency, the community engagement requirement risked significant coverage losses and harm to beneficiaries . . .
