GAO Findings on Private Investment-Owned Nursing Homes
July 15, 2011 In July 2011, the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) reported its findings regarding the difference in private investment (PI) nursing homes in comparison with other nursing homes. The report found that PI-acquired homes reported a lower total nursing staff ratio, but the ratio of registered nurses was higher. Additionally, PI homes showed both cost increases and higher margins in the fiscal years 2003-2008. In GAO's analysis, PI homes have mixed performance ratings in comparison to similar non-PI nursing homes. Download the Report . . .
