Number of Youth Aging Out of Foster Care Drops below 28,000 in 2010
August 10, 2011 A study by fosteringconnections.org analyzed the number of foster children who exited the system from foster care after reaching the age of 18 or older. In 2010, about 11% of youth in foster care aged out at age 18 without having a safe and permanent family. The incidence of foster youth aging out has increased to 7.1% since 2001. Between 1998 and 2007, the number of youth who aged out increased by 70%, from 17,310 in 1998 to the 29,730 in 2007. Download the Report . . .
