Illicit Drug Use among Older Adults
September 1, 2011 The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration National Survey on Drug Use and Health analyzed illicit drug use among older American adults (aged 50 and over). The analysis, based on responses to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health in 2007 and 2009, found that 5.2 % of adults aged 50 or older had used an illicit drug, such as illegal substances or recreational use of prescription medications, in the last year.
