Foster care is a temporary living situation provided by states to promote safety and well-being among children and youth whose home environments are not safe.
Under Title IV-E of the U.S. Social Security Act, states can claim partial federal reimbursement for the cost of providing this care and other services to children who meet federal eligibility criteria.
