Over time, the number of states operating Medicaid Managed Long Term Services and Supports (MLTSS) programs has increased, from 11 states operating 13 programs in 2010 to 24 states operating 27 programs in 2020. As the number of programs have increased, many states have changed their models and extended services to new populations.

OPEN MINDS estimates that the number of states adopting MLTSS programs will increase over time as these programs enable states to provide better care coordination for the most vulnerable populations and reduce unnecessary health care costs.
