Australia-based Advanced Human Imaging Limited (AHI) signed an agreement with U.S. based Jana Care Inc. (Jana Care) for a virtual care offering for smartphone blood tests for diabetes, kidney, and liver disease. Jana Care developed and manufactures the Aina Blood Monitoring Device (the Aina Device). The Aina Device is a multi-parameter platform that performs biochemistry, immunoassays, enzymatic assays, and chemical affinity to provide a quantitative readout in several chronic disease categories, including diabetes, in minutes. The diagnostic sensor can plug into any smartphone to analyse HbA1c, blood glucose, haemoglobin, serum creatinine, lipids, and other tests from a capillary blood sample. Aina can be used by consumers for self-monitoring and by health care professionals for public health or point-of-care testing.
AHI intends to include Jana’s Aina device as an add-on to its suite of health care information technologies that run on a user’s smartphone. The Aina Device is about the size of a matchbox. It uses a very small strip of paper treated with analytes that react to a drop of blood from the user. The strip is inserted into the Aina Device which uses proprietary reading technology to provide results very quickly. The device transfers that data to the user’s smartphone into which it has been plugged through a port or connected via Bluetooth.
The Aina Device has received 510k clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for HbA1c monitoring of diabetes. Jana is used in more than 1,500 clinics by more than 10,000 health workers with 200,000 consumers. AHI does not provide consumer-direct products. It markets software development kits to businesses that embed the technology in their products.
The AHI technology offerings include BodyScan and FaceScan that can help clinical professionals identify risk parameters of chronic disease and identify the need for a blood test. The Aina Device will facilitate the draw, analysis and provide diagnostic reports for consumers, physicians, and care professionals.
