American Board Of Emergency Medicine Offers New Emergency Behavioral Health Practice Designation
The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) was approved for a new Focused Practice Designation (FPD) to recognize expertise in emergency behavioral health (EBH) through collaboration between emergency medicine and psychiatry boards. EBH physicians will increase access to appropriate and timely care for emergency department consumers seeking acute, unscheduled, mental health treatment. These individuals frequently experience disparities of care based on insurance status, race, and age.
