California Researchers Create Robot To Help With Mild Cognitive Impairment
The Cognitively Assistive Robot for Motivation and Neurorehabilitation (CARMEN) is a new tabletop robot designed by researchers at the University of California at San Diego. It aims to help people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) learn skills to improve memory, attention, and executive functioning at home.;
CARMEN was developed in collaboration with clinicians, people with MCI, and their caregivers. MCI is an in-between stage between typical aging and dementia. It affects various areas of cognitive functioning, including memory, attention, and executive functioning, and about 20% of people over age 65 have the condition.
