In 2019, Caravan Health accountable care organizations (ACOs) earned total savings for Medicare of $154 million. The top Caravan Health performers will receive more than $50 million in shared savings, which go directly back to the participating provider organizations and clinical professionals. Quality performance was also excellent in 2019, with Caravan ACOs averaging 94.1% for 2019.
Nearly half the savings and more than half of the shared payments were generated by the new Caravan Health Collaborative ACO, a nationwide ACO that has more than 235,000 attributed lives and 129 participating provider organizations across the country. This ACO saved Medicare more than $70 million and earned $33 million in shared savings for 2019, in its first year of existence.
Caravan Health has supported 43 collaborative ACOs since 2014. The members include primary care, specialty, and hospital provider organizations. The goal is to help ACOs take on responsibility for financial losses by creating an ACO with enough scale to reduce risk for the individual participating health systems, hospitals, and physicians.
