Meridian, a Centene subsidiary in Michigan, is working with Samsung Electronics America to supply health care provider organizations in Michigan with Samsung Galaxy A10e smartphones to distribute to consumers who would not otherwise have access to telehealth. The focus is on expanding access to telehealth for individuals and families living in rural and underserved communities. Meridian announced the initiative on October 21, 2020.
For this initiative, Meridian will deploy 425 Samsung Galaxy A10e smartphones, with 90 days of free wireless service, to select federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), health systems, other health care provider organizations, and community support organizations. Many of the selected provider organizations will be in rural and underserved communities, where there can be barriers to receiving in-person health services. The selected professionals and provider organizations will then determine which of their consumers need the devices and then distribute them accordingly.
Meridian has been supporting Michigan residents since 1997 through Medicaid (MeridianHealth), Medicare Advantage (WellCare), Medicare-Medicaid Plans (MeridianComplete), Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (WellCare), and the Health Insurance Marketplace (Ambetter from Meridian). The insurer is a wholly owned subsidiary of Centene Corporation, a large multi-national health care enterprise. Meridian also offers health plans in Illinois.
