City Of Spokane, Catholic Charities Announce Overnight Shelter Changes
The city of Spokane, Washington and Catholic Charities Spokane recently announced they will be cutting back the capacity of the city’s downtown 24-7 house of charity. The charity had been operating at overcapacity for an extended period of time, which some homeless and Catholic Charities employees felt created an uncomfortable and unsafe environment.
The charity’s building, which had been designed to sleep a little more than 109 homeless, found itself sleeping around 300 homeless each night, in addition to pets. With the reduction in capacity, the charity has returned to sleeping about 109 homeless a night, and . . .
