CMS Announces Update For Its Bundled Payments For Care Improvement Pilot Program
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that 2,100 participants have moved to the contract, risk-bearing period of the agency's Bundled Payments for Care Improvement initiative (BPCI). BPCI is composed of four broadly defined care models, which bundle payments for multiple services beneficiaries receive during an episode of care. BPCI was started under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and it originally had 7,000 providers sign on to review how they would implement bundled payment contracts.
