DOJ Submits Proposed Regulation To Reschedule Cannabis
The federal Department of Justice (DOJ) submitted a proposed rule that calls for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to reschedule cannabis from a Schedule I drug (no currently accepted medical use) to a Schedule III drug with medical uses, but the potential for physical dependence. Comments are due by July 22, 2024.
DEA scheduling is based on eight factors, and ranges from Level I illicit drugs with high abuse potential to Level V drugs with very limited physical or psychological dependence.
