Fond Du Lac County, Wisconsin To Close Inpatient Mental Health Center Amid $1.4 Million Annual Loss, Effective January 1, 2027

Fond du Lac County will close its county-run inpatient acute mental health center, effective January 1, 2027, according to a County Board of Supervisors vote on July 21, 2026. The Fond du Lac County Behavioral Healthcare Inpatient Acute Unit has been serving the county since 1980. The resolution approving the closure cited declining use, rising costs and the inability to provide appropriate staffing. A county executive said the facility was losing $1.4 million per year.
