Highmark & Blue KC Announce Affiliation Agreement

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC), a local not-for-profit health insurer, announced plans to affiliate with Highmark Inc., a not-for-profit health insurer and the nation’s fifth largest Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan. Together, Blue KC and Highmark will serve nearly 8 million members nationwide. Financial terms and the target affiliation date were not disclosed in the announcement, other than that it is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
