Medicaid, BlueCross BlueShield Of South Carolina Impose Limits On Length Of Opioid Prescriptions
Medicaid and BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina recently announced they will be imposing new limits on the length of opioid prescriptions. Specifically, consumers in South Carolina will be limited to 5- or seven-day supplies of pain killers.
The limits come as efforts are made by states and federal government to combat the nation’s sweeping opioid epidemic. The new limits are planned to go into effect beginning April 1 for the seven-day prescriptions, and May 1 for five-day prescriptions. BlueCross Blueshield commercial and Medicaid plans cover more than two-thirds of the state’s population.
