Montana Awarded $263,000 Grant For Early Mental Illness Intervention In Youth/Young Adults
Montana has been awarded a $263,000 federal grant to develop an early intervention mental illness treatment program to provide intensive expert services to youth and young adults aged 16-25 who experience their first psychotic episode. The goal of this early intervention is to prevent conditions from worsening over time. Most candidates who enter the program will remain for two years on average.
Studies show that the average time between first psychosis symptoms and treatment is over a year in the United States. Untreated symptoms can lead to suicide, school dropout, unemployment, substance abuse, arrest, and incarceration. Montana joins . . .
