North Carolina Invests $4 Million To Expand & Professionalize Family Peer Support
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) invested $4 million to expand and professionalize family peer support services statewide for families of children with behavioral health challenges. The funding will be used to support 40 new Certified Family Peer Specialists that combined will help nearly a thousand families each year.
To implement the initiative, NCDHHS partnered with UNC Greensboro (UNCG) and the UNCG NC Youth and Family Voices Amplified program, which is a statewide training initiative. The new peer specialists will be credentialed through the National Federation of Families as Certified Family Peer Specialists.
