North Carolina Unveils FACT Teams Pilot To Improve Outcomes For People With Mental Illness & Frequent Interactions With The Criminal Justice System
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services unveiled a $9.5 million pilot program to test forensic assertive community treatment (FACT) teams. The pilot will help participants who have severe mental health needs and are involved in the justice system successfully reenter their communities while reducing their likelihood of reoffending. FACT teams will be created in Pitt, New Hanover, Wake/Durham, Buncombe, and Mecklenburg counties.
Each team will receive $636,000 per year for three years, the announcement stated. The funding will flow through the local management entity/managed care organization (LME/MCO) for each area.
