Pennsylvania Begins First Distribution of $103 Million In SUN Bucks Funding To Feed Children Over Summer Break
Pennsylvania started distributing $103 million in summer food assistance through the SUN Bucks program, a federally funded benefit that helps families buy food while schools are closed. Approximately 860,000 children who are automatically eligible will receive benefits starting this week.
SUN Bucks provides eligible families with a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)-like benefit to purchase food during summer months. Benefits are issued as a one-time payment of $40 per month ($120 total) per eligible child, covering the full summer. An estimated 1.3 million children in Pennsylvania are expected to qualify across all Summer 2026 distributions.
