State Closes Connecticut Juvenile Training School In Middletown
The state of Connecticut recently closed the Connecticut Juvenile Training School (CJTS), a facility run under the Department of Children and Families for incarcerated male youth ages 12 to 20. Governor Daniel P. Malloy ordered the facility to be shut down two years ago.
The facility has recently seen a dramatic drop in the number of youth it houses due to factors such as declining juvenile and young adult arrests, record low crime rate, state criminal justice reform, and improved behavioral health services for youth in the state.
