President Obama announced the resignation of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, as well as the nomination of her preferred successor, current Director of the Office of Management and Budget Sylvia Mathews Burwell. Sebelius was confirmed on April 28, 2009. Her tenure - 1,809 days as of Friday - is nearly a year and a half longer than the average for HHS Secretaries, dating to the Carter administration.
