UNC Health Care Acquires Morehead Memorial Hospital

UNH Health Care, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill-based medical system, recently acquired Rockingham County Hospital. The hospital will be renamed UNC Rockingham Health Care.

The acquisition comes after the hospital filed bankruptcy last July. It had been searching for years, up until that point, for a larger hospital system to purchase it. As part of the purchase, UNC Health Care paid $11.5 million for Morehead Memorial’s assets, and plans on investing an additional $20 million over the next three years into capital investments for the hospital.
