USDA Terminates Household Food Security Reports Described As Redundant
On September 20, 2025, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the termination of future Household Food Security Reports, a survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census. The USDA stated that the Household Food Security Reports were redundant to data sets that are more timely and accurate, but the announcement did not share any other data sets.
“Trends in the prevalence of food insecurity have remained virtually unchanged, despite an increase of more than 87% in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) spending between 2019 and 2023,” the USDA announcement stated.
