Vatican Approves St. Mary’s Medical Center Acquisition
The Vatican recently approved the acquisition of St. Mary’s Medical Center (SMMC) by Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH). An agreement was signed in 2014 for CHH to acquire the center from Pallottine Health Services, however, Vatican approval had been a requirement for the acquisition to progress.
In addition to Vatican approval, the acquisition recently became more feasible when a legal challenge by Steel of West Virginia against the proposed merger was resolved by an agreement. As part of the transaction, CCH has agreed to allow SMMC to retain its name, as well as remain a Catholic-affiliated hospital.
