WakeMed To Build Mental Health & Acute Care Hospitals In Garner, North Carolina
WakeMed, a not-for-profit health system in North Carolina plans to build a whole-person health campus, consisting of a 150-bed mental health hospital and a 45-bed acute care hospital to be located in Garner, North Carolina. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services recently approved WakeMed's certificate of need (CON) applications for the two facilities.
The mental health and well-being hospital will be the first facility constructed on the new 53-acre campus. WakeMed officials anticipate construction will begin in 2024. It is expected to open in fall 2026.
