The prevalence of comorbid mental health and chemical dependency problems in the United States was determined from the National Institute of Mental Health Epidemiologic Catchment Aiea Program and published in Comorbidity of Mental Disorders with Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse in the November 21, 1990 issue of Journal of the American Medical Association.
