The National Institute on Drug Abuse has developed estimates of the number of Americans using drugs non-medically (drugs used under a physicians supervision were not included.) The estimates which are summarized below were developed from the 1990 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse and reported in the January, 1991 issue of Alcohol And Drug Abuse Pulse Beats. The estimates are based on an estimated U.S. population of 201,187,963.
