Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare Delays Start of Managed Medicaid Program

OPEN MINDS The Behavioral Health & Social Service Industry Analyst Industry News Despite a delay in the start of Pennsylvania's managed Medicaid program until February 1, 1997, the signing of managed behavioral health contracts with five participating counties is "imminent," according to Charles G. Curie, deputy secretary for mental health for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare (DPW). The start date was originally set for January 1, 1997, but the delay was issued to "make sure there was ample opportunity for consumers to make an informed choice" with regard to selecting membership in one of four health maintenance organizations . . .
