OPEN MINDS The Behavioral Health & Social Service Industry Analyst Industry Statistics Psychiatrists share of the market for outpatient psychiatric and chemical dependency visits dropped from 36% to less than 22% during the period 1982 to 1987, according to an OPEN MINDS study. Analysis of CHAMPUS utilization data for outpatient behavioral health visits found gains in market share for psychologists, non-psychiatric physicians, marriage counselors, pastoral counselors and other non-psychiatric mental health professionals.
