Admissions to private addiction treatment centers fell in 1989 for the first time according to a report by the National Association Of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP). In a report that appeared in the March, 1990 issue of Alcohol And Drug Abuse Pulse Beats, NAATP Communications Director, Kenneth Estes, cited several factors for the decrease in admissions including increased competition; resurgence of stigma associated with addiction; and pressure from managed care activities.
