OPEN MINDS, The Behavioral Health & Social Service Industry Analyst Industry News Nearly 1.4 million of all 108 million general non-Federal hospital emergency department visits were associated with drug misuse or abuse in 2005. About a third of drug-related emergency visits, 598,542, were estimated to involve non-medical use of prescription or over-the-counter pharmaceuticals or dietary supplements.
