The senior citizen population (over age 64) uses more inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services than the general population. In addition, the conditions that prompt the senior population to seek behavioral health treatment are quite different from the younger population. These are among the findings of an OPEN MINDS analysis of National Ambulatory Care Survey and National Hospital Discharge data for the years 1985 and 1987, respectively.
