Disabled Medicaid Enrollees, 17% Of Population, But 37% Of Expenditures: Disabled Population Uses 77% Of Medicaid Behavioral Health Expenditures

The disabled Medicaid enrollee population accounts for 17% of the total Medicaid population, but used 37% of Medicaid expenditures for federal fiscal year (FFY) 97. The elderly population represents 10% of the Medicaid population but used 27% of the expenditures. Adults and children representing the Aid to Families with Dependent Children/Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (AFDC/TANF) population represent 73% of the Medicaid population but account for only 26% of the total Medicaid expenditures.
