Medicaid In The Child Welfare System: A Medicaid Managed Care Toolkit
On any given day, there are close to half a million children in foster care in the U.S. Many more come to the attention of the child welfare system due to reports of suspected child abuse or neglect, but remain with their families. Medicaid is already the dominant insurer for children involved in child welfare, and its role will expand as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) extends Medicaid eligibility to former foster youth up to age 26, starting in 2014.
