This represented 66.1% of national drug treatment expenditures in 1996. In addition, of the total $79.3 billion in 1996 mental health and other alcohol or drug abuse (MHAOD) treatment expenditures, approximately 6.3% ($5.0 billion) was for treatment of alcohol abuse.
