Ontario officials have started clamping down on medical payments to U.S. facilities including those specializing in treatment of chemical dependency. A portion of out-of- country treatments are paid for by the province under the Canadian Health Care System. Payments by Ontario Province to U.S. substance abuse facilities soared from $5 million three years ago to $47 million just year. One patient was treated at six different U.S. facilities costing the province $438,000.
