As of June 30, 2007, there were 167,857 state-operated or state-licensed facilities providing residential services for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (ID/DD); this does not include psychiatric facilities or nursing homes. This is a 1,424% growth over the past three decades; in 1977, there were only 11,008 residential facilities for individuals with ID/DD.
