Utilization of mental health and chemical dependency benefits varies widely by age group. According to an OPEN MINDS study, the 25-34 age group uses the most outpatient behavioral benefits (715 visits per 1,000 in the sample group) while the 15-24 age group uses the most inpatient benefits (165 days per 1,000). The 45-64 age group had the lowest utilization.
