16 Health Insurers Endorse Standard Principles For Addiction Treatment

On November 8, 2017, 16 health care payers announced a commitment to adopt eight “National Principles of Care for Substance Use Disorder Treatment” intended to improve access to and the quality of addiction treatment. The National Principles of Care were developed by the Substance Use Disorder Treatment Task Force launched in April 2017 by Shatterproof. The principles were derived from the U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on Alcohol, Drugs, and Health.

The 16 initial signatory organizations are: Aetna, AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies, Anthem, Inc., Beacon Health Options, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, CareOregon, CareSource, Centene . . .
