State Initiatives In Capitation & Population-Based Payment
Most states are selecting managed care as their strategy for “bending the cost curve" - something that continues to become more clear from our monitoring of state Medicaid programs. As of 2010, the total Medicaid population was 54.6 million, 39 million (71.5%) of which were enrolled in managed care (see National Summary of Medicaid Managed Care Programs and Enrollment). In the last few months we have seen additional moves in this direction as New York and Colorado released behavioral health managed care RFPs in Medicaid, and Virginia, Michigan, and Kansas awarded managed care contracts.
