It’s Official! Behavioral Health Integral To Medical Homes
You know that behavioral health integration is moving along the fast path when even primary care physicians are on aboard. That's what happened in earlier this year when six national family medicine organizations released a Joint Principles statement, stating that behavioral health care is an integral part of the patient centered medical home (PCMH) model (see Behavioral Health Care Deemed Integral To Patient-Centered Medical Homes). Their definition of behavioral health? Mental health care, substance abuse treatment, health behavior change, and attention to family and other psychosocial factors. Their rationale? Most medical problems have a psychosocial dimension.
