When It Comes To Health Insurance Trends, The Action Is At The State Level
Following the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), there were major changes in insurance coverage in the United States. Between 2011 and 2016, the percent of the population that was uninsured dropped from 15% to 9%, and there were corresponding increases in the size of the commercial and Medicaid populations. Since the implementation of Medicaid expansion and the health insurance marketplace—the period from 2014 to 2016— there have been incremental changes in coverage.
